Lecrae- Who is he? Lecrae is a rapper who recently released his new album and took the number one place on the Billboard’s top 200 for three consecutive weeks. Lecrae is a Christian Hip-hop artist and is very good at rapping.

His full name is Lecrae Moore. He is married and has three kids and started the Christian record company known as Reach Records who have signed many other artists over the years.

Lecrae’s recently released album ‘Anomaly’ is his best album yet with only a couple of featured artists such as Andy Mineo, Kari Jobe, and For King and Country. Lecrae’s hard work definitely paid off, even bringing him more into the mainstream, as he was brought onto Jimmy Fallon’s show. There are a total of 15 songs on ‘Anomaly.’

An anomaly is something that deviates from what is normal, and Lecrae named his album ‘Anomaly’ because he doesn’t really fit into a specific place. He’s a misfit. Lecrae embraces this. He says it is okay to not fit in and that you should just be yourself.

“Runners” is the best song on this album. The song is definitely catchy, starting out with an acted dialogue and rhythm, transitioning to lyrics and an amazing bass. Though this song has a great message within it, Lecrae hits on the issue of cheating on someone or getting around. He speaks from his own experiences earlier in his life. About 50 seconds in he says, “I pledge girls then it’s on to the next girl, My next girl eventually be my ex-girl, But its’ funny how it all unfolds, I done finally found a woman I ain’t never letting go, whoa.” These lyrics can pretty well sum up the message of the song. Senior Alec Sun says “I like ‘Runners’ the most.”

“Welcome to America” is next on the list. You might believe you’re actually on an airplane as the song begins with its audibly deceptive start. However, the song seems to be about social issues in our society, things such as people doing whatever it takes just to bring in money, even when it’s illegal. One line less than a minute into the song says “Boy, a momma might sell her babies, Sell porn sell pills anything to pay the bills, Anything to bring that pay.” Using these lyrics show some of those big issues found in America while keeping you listening with the help of an awesome beat.

“Good, Bad, Ugly” is third on the list. It is very good musically and comes with a deep message. Lecrae tells about a babysitter that molested him when he was a child. He didn’t speak about it as learned from these lyrics: “Did a few things that’s hard to say, Told me to keep that secret safe, How a young boy supposed to deal, I’m tryna act like it ain’t real, Had my innocence just stripped from me, And I still don’t know how to feel, And I’m wondering how to address it, Can’t tell my family, too messy, So I just embrace it, it’s hard to face it, I’m too ashamed to confess it, So I kept it in and ain’t speak” Lecrae then goes on to speak about a girlfriend that he had gotten pregnant not long after he had first become a Christian, though out of fear they aborted the baby. Lecrae raps,“I was too selfish with my time, scared my dreams were not gonna survive. So I dropped her off at the clinic, that day a part of us died.”

Sun went to one of Lecrae’s ‘Anomaly’ tour stops in Portland, Oregon and says, “I’d have to say seeing Lecrae in person and being able to sing along to all of his songs was the best part.”

These are just three of the best songs on this three week Billboard topping album. This review does not do the album enough justice. Everyone should take a listen to Lecrae’s ‘Anomaly’ and decide for themselves if this artist did a job well done. You can listen to these three songs by clicking the links below!
